abstract = {There is a trend in major search engines to integrate vertical search results together with Web search results. This falls in the new domain of aggregated search. In this paper we study the ability of diverse vertical search engines to answer common Web search queries in conjunction with Web search. To do so we propose a user study concerning 30 participants, 100 Web search queries, a Web search engine and 8 vertical search engines. We analyze the distribution of relevant results across different sources. This provide interesting information. It revalidates the utility of a set of different sources and it shows that the utility of vertical search engines is comparable to Web search. Furthemore, we study some specific advantages and issues of aggregated search. Using potentially ambiguous queries and unambiguous information needs, we show that aggregated search helps identify different interpretations of the query but also different aspects of the same information need.}
